Hip precautions post surgery are threefold:
1. Don't bend the hip more than 90 degrees
2. Don't move the hip across the midline of the body
3. Don't stress the hip in rotation- i.e.- don't turn your toes inward.
All precautions make perfect sense and ensure that the new hip doesn't dislocate from its new "home." The precautions also require a fair amount of equipment which we have accumulated after 3 surgeries- Raised toilet seat, walker, crutches, cane, shower seat, sock assister(the best invention ever!!!) and a "grabber."
Somehow in the course of the years the TWO grabbers that we had are missing, and I mistakenly thought that I could exist without it. Silly me.... The number of things that slip and fall to the floor is sad . It is difficult to not pick them up- just leave them there--- And especially yesterday, my first day at home--was especially telling. Fortunately nothing of real necessity fell--but poor Koz had to go around at all of the places that I had been seated and pick up around my chair.
I'm getting a grabber today!
